Isaiah 2:5-22

5 House of Jacob, come and let us walk in the
light of Yahweh.
6 For you have forsaken your people, house of
Jacob, because they are full[d] from the east, and of soothsayers like the Philistines,
and they make alliances with the offspring of foreigners.
7 And its land is filled with silver and gold, and
there is no end to its treasures; and its land is filled with horses, and there
is no end to its chariots.
8 Its land is filled with idols; they bow down
to the work of their hands, to what they made with their fingers.

KJV puts like this "12 For the day of the
Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every
one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low”
The term, “the day of the Lord shall be
upon”….means the judgment, or consequences, of the Day of the Lord will be felt

13 and against all the lofty and lifted up
cedars of Lebanon, and against all the large trees of Bashan,
Why Trees? Well trees were used to make the
idols, the “good for nothing” things, or as Bullinger's called them,
“nothings”.
14 and against all the high mountains, and
against all the lofty hills,
… where the idols were built for all to be able
to see.
15 and against every kind of high tower, and
against every kind of fortified wall,
16 and against all the ships of Tarshish, and
against all the ships of desire.
17 And the haughtiness of the people shall be
humbled, and the pride of everyone shall be brought low, and Yahweh alone will
be exalted on that day.
18 And the idols shall pass away entirely,

In the NIV, 22 Stop trusting in mere humans,
who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?
In the expanded bible: 22 Stop trusting in
people to save you [L Cease from
man/people],
·because people are only human [L whose
breath is in his nostrils];
·they aren’t able to help you [what good are
they; or why do you esteem them?].
Complete Jewish bible: 22 Stop relying on man, in
whose nostrils is a mere breath —after all, he doesn’t count for much, does he?
